Epernay, Champagne

Champagne reveals itself through its vineyards and characterful villages

A must-see in Epernay, the 1km-long Champagne Avenue has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. Lined on either side by exceptional mansions with sumptuous façades and cobbled courtyards, the great Champagne Houses follow one another: Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouët, Vranken... More than 200 million bottles are stored beneath your feet, giving you the chance to visit one of the many 18th-century cellars carved out of the chalk and delve into the secrets of making this precious nectar. Before leaving this beautiful avenue, a visit to the champagne wine and regional archaeology museum is a must, as is a 150-metre ascent in a hot-air balloon for a lovely panoramic view of the Champagne region and its vineyards.

Just outside Epernay, a host of villages await you: the characterful town of Aÿ; Athis and its moorlands; the Côte des Blancs vineyard village of Aviz; Bergère-les-Vertus; Chaltrais, on the Champagne route; Brugny Vaudancourt and its 13th-century château; Chouilly and its Chardonnay vines; Cuis with its cliffs and vineyards as far as the eye can see...
You'll never tire of discovering these remarkable villages and landscapes by bike, following the many signposted paths along the Marne, vineyards and forests.

30km from Epernay, Reims, its mountain and its three state-owned forests, but also its exceptional heritage: Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Palais du Tau, the great Champagne houses and their cellars, Saint-Rémi Abbey...
Champagne, with its elegant hillsides and remarkable heritage, will appeal to young and old alike and offers the promise of unforgettable holidays.
